Construction worker hospitalized after collapse on LI

WOODBURY, N.Y. -- A construction worker was killed when a roof collapsed at a building in Nassau County on Thursday.

It happened around 9 a.m. at the Jericho Water District Facility in Woodbury.

Nassau County Police say two construction workers were erecting a roof to a new building when the structure began to collapse.

According to police, one worker, a 49-year-old Roosevelt man, was pinned against a wall by the collapsing roof.

It took emergency responders, fire officials and private crane operators six and a half hours to free him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Police say the other worker, a 24-year-old man, suffered a cut to his face. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.

Nassau County Police and OSHA are investigating.
