As Holiday Season Kicks Into High Gear, So Do Tempers On The Road

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- As New York City gets more crowded for the holiday season, drivers might be more pushed to their boiling points.

As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, you might hear a lot of horns blaring during the holiday weekend with crowded parking lots at the shopping malls, streets filled with traffic and tempers flaring.

But AAA's Robert Sinclair suggests the motorists just let it go.

"The key to avoiding road rage is not engaging. Generally, road rage takes two participants," he said.

Maybe you accidentally cut someone off and that person is now flying off the handle? Sinclair suggests not to provoke anything further and to get the authorities involved when needed.

"If the person pursues you, go to a well-lit area where police might be, go to a police station. Don't go home if the person is pursuing you and following you," he said.

And if you're the one with the road rage, Sinclair says it's important to take a moment to relax.
