Police Arrest 1 Of 3 Teens Who Escaped From NJ Detention Center

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- One of the three teens who escaped from a northern New Jersey detention center more than a week ago has been arrested in Newark.

The boy was caught on Monday and taken to Essex Juvenile Detention Center, authorities said. Investigators believe the other two boys are also in Newark.

The teens fled from the minimum-security Green Residential Community Home in Ringwood on June 28, where they were being held there on probation violations.

Police said the boys -- a 15-year-old and two 17-year-olds, all from Newark -- attacked a 71-year-old employee and stole his keys.

The teens then drove off in his van, unaware that the employee's friend, a 29-year-old woman, was sleeping in the backseat. She and the van were found in Newark last week.

Neither the employee or the woman were injured in the escape.

State officials launched a review in the wake of the incident.
