Architecture Firm Uses Balloon Rigged With Cameras To Survey Manhattan Building Heights

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A private architecture firm was conducting a height survey of buildings in Manhattan on Sunday.

The survey consisted of a large balloon aloft approximately 800 feet, from 11 a.m. until 8:15 p.m. in the vicinity of Chrystie and Stanton Streets, police said.

The balloon was rigged with cameras to photograph views from buildings that will be built in the neighborhood. The images will be used in promotional materials that will be used to promote the buildings.

"It's about showing the views for a new building, before the building is built," photographer Evan Joseph explained.

Joseph said that the cameras would not infringe on the privacy of residents already living in the neighborhood.

The survey was expected to continue on Monday from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of East 58th Street and Sutton Place.
