Apple's Famous Fifth Avenue Glass Cube Damaged By Snowblower

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The flurry of tourists around the Apple store on Fifth Avenue Wednesday had very little to do with technology.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported Wednesday, a worker drove a snowblower into the store's famous cube during Tuesday's snowstorm, creating perhaps thousands of tiny cracks in the glass.

"We saw it on Facebook. And because we're here, we said 'OK we have to take a look," one tourist told Stern.

The damaged cube, which is made up of 15 panes of clear glass, was roped off by the property owner to avoid any possible injuries, Stern reported.

It is estimated that it will cost nearly $500,000 to fix the glass.
