New Bill Would Require Anti-Sex Assault Training For NYC Taxi Drivers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new bill being proposed would require New York City cab drivers to complete anti-sexual assault training.

Under the bill, which is being introduced to the City Council on Wednesday, drivers would be taught how to respond if they witness an assault, CBS2 reported.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has expressed concern about the spike in rapes against women in cabs.

Last year, 14 women were raped in cabs, compared to 10 the previous year.

The February 2015 rape of a woman in the back of a green cab also prompted the creation of a bill requiring a panic button be installed in passenger areas of all taxi cabs and livery vehicles.
