Man Accused Of Killing Reputed Mob Boss 'Franky Boy' Cali Pleads Not Guilty

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The man accused of gunning down reputed Gambino crime boss Francesco "Franky Boy" Cali was back in court Wednesday.

Anthony Comello, 24, pleaded not guilty to on murder and weapon charges.

Police said he crashed his truck into Cali's SUV to lure him outside and then shot him to death last month on Staten Island.

"This defendant allegedly wantonly and willfully took another life in cold blood and has now been indicted for murder and weapons charges," District Attorney Michael E. McMahon said in a statement. "This type of senseless violence will not be tolerated in our Staten Island neighborhoods – my office will prosecute this case to the full extent of the law and hold this defendant accountable for the heinous crime he is accused of committing."

Sources told CBS2 that Comello was outraged Cali didn't want him dating his niece.

Police said the motive could be more complicated and is still under investigation.
