And Baby Makes 10,000: Midwifery Practice At Stony Brook Hospital Celebrates Milestone

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a girl! Number 10,000 in fact.

At the midwifery practice at Stony Brook Hospital, baby number 10,000 arrived Thursday, 1010 WINS Mona Rivera reported.

The midwives created a countdown on social media and had been anticipating this birth for a few weeks.

Three women went into labor at the hospital Wednesday night and the race was on to see who would be crowned number 10,000.

"We had our first birth in September 1996, and now it's about 18 1/2 years later, we just celebrated our 10,000th birth," said Christina Kocis, certified  midwife and Director of the Midwifery Division in the OBGYN department at Stony Brook.

Phyllis Boccio of Centereach said "she had a feeling" it would be her -- and it wasn't just the baby kicking.

Boccio was right.
