Amtrak Announces Tunnels Between NYC, N.J. Need Repairs, May Have To Curtail Service

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Commuting into New York from New Jersey could get more complicated as Amtrak says tunnels between the two states need repairs.

Amtrak says salt has corroded its tunnels and it may have to curtail service to do repair work, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is pointing a finger at Gov. Christie's cancelation of a nearly $9 billion railroad tunnel project four years ago.

"Across Hudson Rail Tunnel is a priority for this region. It should have happened; it should have begun years ago. With all due respect to Gov. Christie, I think he made a mistake in pulling out of that project," he said.

The mayor declared everyone must get on the same page-- the city, the two states and Amtrak-- adding that he is going to be enthusiastically part of that process.
