Police: 3 People Dead In Amityville Crash

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Three people have died in an overnight crash on Long Island.

It happened on Oak Street just east of Bayview Avenue in Amityville around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said 27-year-old Alex Demetrius was driving a 2003 BMW X5 eastbound on Oak Street when he entered the westbound lane, striking a 2017 Toyota Corolla.

"I heard two loud bangs," neighbor Kirk Uson told CBS2's Jenna DeAngelis. "It's a little upsetting. Once in a while, they fly up and down through here pretty fast. It's a little upsetting."

Demetrius was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the Toyota, 65-year-old Joseph Cloonan, and his son, 34-year-old John Cloonan, were also pronounced dead, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
