American Pharoah Set For Early Belmont Arrival

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — American Pharoah is scheduled to arrive at Belmont Park on Tuesday, June 2, a day earlier than originally planned.

The Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner galloped 1 3/16 miles at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday. Trainer Bob Baffert said the horse looked "like his fluid self" during Tuesday morning's workout.

"That's Pharoah. When he's on his game, that's the way he looks," Baffert said. "I was really happy with the way he went."

On June 6, American Pharoah will attempt to become the 12th Triple Crown winner and first to sweep the Derby, Preakness and Belmont since Affirmed in 1978.

California Chrome failed in its bid last year, finishing fourth at the Belmont.
