As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, the flowers and trees in Central Park seem to be bursting into spring.

"Sneezing, nose itching, eyes itching. I'm in full bloom," one woman told Haskell.

One reason for the allergy onslaught was the cold winter and spring. This past March was one of the 10 coldest on record, according to New Jersey State Climatologist Dr. David Robinson.

"The foliage had been kind of laying low up until this past several days and now an explosion of blooming," he told Haskell. "This year, it appears that the growing season is going to burst upon us much more quickly. Therefore, concentrating the blooming in a shorter period of time."

Robinson said the cold snap that's coming could actually extend the misery.
