Affordable Housing Apartment Building Slated For Eleventh Avenue Site

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An affordable housing apartment building is in the works for the West Side of Manhattan, near the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.

As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, the site is located in the midst of an assortment of luxury condo buildings.

The city's Economic Development Corporation said the goal for the site is 100 percent affordable housing, and a commercial and community facility space.

That means the site could include stores, and anything from a day care center to a noncommercial museum.

The exact address is 493 Eleventh Ave., between 39th and 40th streets, on the west side of the road.

The site is currently occupied by a parking lot for the NYPD, but was once the site of the New York Butchers' Dressed Meat Company.

The slaughterhouse was demolished several years ago.

A spokeswoman for the Economic Development Corporation said the city will put out a request for proposals this summer for the affordable housing apartment building.
