9/11 Memorial Museum Has Had 5 Million Visitors Since Opening Less Than 2 Years Ago

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- New York's 9/11 museum announced Monday that 5 million people have visited since it opened in May 2014.

Visitors from all 50 states and more than 150 countries have flocked to the National 9/11 Memorial Museum in less than two years. Museum President Joe Daniels told WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini that the memorial places a strong emphasis on the global impact of the September 2001 tragedy.

"There's very much a feeling in our exhibitions when you see the story of 9/11 and you see how New Yorkers came together and people in every state came together, but the world joined together in unity," Daniels said.

More than 90 countries lost citizens in the 2001 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
