Mangano Jury Tells Judge They're Deadlocked

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The jury in the the corruption trial of former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his wife, Linda has told a judge they're deadlocked.

They sent a note to the judge around 12:30 p.m. on the eighth day of deliberations.

The judge brought the jurors into the courtroom and instructed them to keep deliberating as best they could.

Signs of a deadlock came a day after a juror was replaced with an alternate. That juror called out sick, and said there was cursing in the jury room and called the environment "toxic."

The judge replaced her with an alternate and told the jury to start over again.

Mangano is accused of taking bribes and kickbacks from restaurant owner Harendra Singh in exchange for government favors and an alleged no-show job for Linda Mangano.
