80-Year-Old Deli Clerk Fatally Shot Inside Brooklyn Bodega

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An elderly Brooklyn man is dead after being shot inside a bodega in East New York Tuesday evening.

Police say a person walked into the deli at 797 Stanley Ave. around 6:30 p.m. and shot 80-year-old Abdulla Yafaee in the chest.

Yafaee was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the suspect was engaged in some sort of dispute with Yafaee inside the deli earlier in the day. The suspect returned several hours later and fired multiple shots inside the store.

Customers told CBS2's Jessica Layton that Yafaee had been a staple in the deli for years.

They said they had no idea who would want to hurt him.

"He was always kind, never an issue. He's all, a quiet guy, never argue with anybody," a neighbor said.

No arrests have been made as the investigation is ongoing.

In 2014, a clerk was found dead inside the same bodega, where he reportedly worked for nearly a decade.
