Mumps is a contagious disease that starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite followed by the swelling of salivary glands, the Center for Disease Control explained.

The university said all the affected students had prior vaccinations against mumps, but vaccinations do not offer 100 percent protection.
