Police: Suspect In Rape Of 7-Year-Old Staten Island Girl Arrested In NJ

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man accused of raping a 7-year-old girl on Staten Island has been arrested in New Jersey, police said Wednesday.

Daniel Nieto was taken into custody Tuesday in East Brunswick and is facing extradition back to Staten Island, police said. Charges are pending.

Police said Nieto entered the little girl's home through a back door just before 3 a.m. on August 6 and sexually assaulted her.

He was initially arrested on trespassing charges, but the alleged rape did not come to light until after he was released from police custody, CBS 2 reported.

Police believe the crime was random and the victim and her family have no connection with the suspect.
