4 Injured When Fire Rips Through Canal Street Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm fire in a building in Lower Manhattan left four people injured early Saturday.

Firefighters were on the scene around 4:55 a.m. as the blaze raged in the building at 255 Canal St., near Lafayette Street.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the window of the building as the fire raged.

Two adults and two children were injured and hospitalized following the fire.

They were taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital in unknown conditions, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Traffic delays persisted in the area later Saturday morning.
