3 Yonkers Teens Chosen For Suburban Youth Advisory Board

YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Three high school students have been chosen to join a board that provides a youth perspective on issues in suburban New York.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced the appointments Friday. Ashley Mendola, Peter Kusick and Brianna Noriega are joining four other members of the Youth Advisory Board. It was created last year.

It debates issues that affect young people, recommends policies to prevent juvenile delinquency and encourages closer cooperation between schools and employers.

Mendola is a 17-year-old senior who coordinates National Honor Society events. Kusick is a 16-year-old junior and the vice president of his student body. Noriega is a 16-year-old senior involved in many organizations.

Some other cities nationwide also have youth advisory boards.
