3-Year-Old Drowns In Staten Island Pool

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a 3-year-old boy drowned at a swimming pool in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten Island Thursday.

The incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. at the Mother Bird Day Care Center, located at 51 Maple Pkwy.

Police told 1010 WINS the mother, who works at the day care, was waiting for the day care owner to show up to help close the facility when the boy, Edward Harris, wandered off and fell into the pool.

Harris was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, but was pronounced dead, 1010 WINS reported.

Police said that it appears the location is a licensed day care center.

The incident comes just two days after 10-year-old Takara McDuffy, of Staten Island, drowned in waters off Coney Island.
