3 Top Officials Leaving Coney Island Hospital Following Patient's Controversial Death

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Three top officials at Coney Island Hospital were ousted following the controversial death of a patient.

Jorge Matos believes his wife, 47-year-old Grisel Soto, died because her condition was misdiagnosed at Coney Island Hospital.

He claims his wife was mistreated from the moment paramedics came to their apartment.

"These people in the hospital did nothing," Matos told 1010 WINS' Al Jomes. "Actually nothing is not the  word. If they had done nothing, she would be alive."

Soto was taken to the hospital in extreme pain, but was misdiagnosed as a synthetic marijuana user. An autopsy is pending, but the family believes she died of meningitis. They plan to sue.

NYC Health + Hospitals said the shake-up of officials at Coney Island is meant to improve the patient experience and hospital culture.
