3 Residents Safely Escape Belleville House Fire

BELLEVILLE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Three residents escaped unharmed when a fast-moving fire roared through an Essex County home.

Investigators said the flames broke out at around 7:30 at 86 Belmont Ave, a two-story home. It began in a couch in the rear of the home and then extended to the second floor, NJ.com reported.

One man escaped through the front of the home, while police helped rescue another man who was on a second-floor awning. An elderly woman was helped out of the home by neighbors.

A Rottweiler mix dog was killed in the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
