3-Alarm Fire Spreads To Multiple Residences In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An extra-alarm fire burned its way through several apartment houses in Newark Friday afternoon.

The fire broke out at 23 Hudson St. in Newark, and spread to neighboring buildings.

Video from the scene showed flames tearing through the roofs of multiple frame house buildings. Thick clouds of black and white smoke were billowing onto the street.

The Newark Fire Department told CBS 2 the fire started in a vacant home.

The fire then spread to another vacant home, and a third that was occupied.

The blaze was extinguished by about 6 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Information about a possible cause was not immediately available.
