Fiery crash on I-280 in East Orange, N.J. sends 2 drivers to hospital, state police say
A fiery crash on I-280 in East Orange, New Jersey sent two drivers to the hospital and shut down an on ramp to the Garden State Parkway for the morning rush.
New Jersey State Police said a preliminary investigation found two vehicles -- an Audi and a Honda -- were both traveling east when the driver of the Audi lost control and collided with the Honda.
Both vehicles flipped over and crashed into a tree on the side of the roadway, state police said. The Audi then burst into flames.
Chopper 2 flew over the scene where the Audi had visible fire damage to its roof, and the Honda remained lodged under the tree.
State police said both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital.
The crash shut down the eastbound ramp onto the Garden State Parkway, causing delays that stretched for over two miles.
The damaged Audi was eventually loaded onto a flatbed truck, as crews worked to clear the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, state police said.
