23 Indicted In Crackdown On Gangs In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities in the Bronx have indicted 23 people in connection with a crackdown on violent gangs dealing in guns and drugs.

Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson said Thursday the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation and the Black Stone Gorilla Gangstas -- which are affiliated with the Bloods -- were mostly based in the Castle Hill and Co-Op City areas of the borough.

Though some of the alleged gang members regularly traveled to Maryland to commit crimes, according to law enforcement officials.

The most serious charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and enterprise corruption.

The investigation dates back to May, 2014 and involved the use of wiretaps.
