New York Boat Show Kicks Off At Javits Center

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Anchors aweigh!

The New York Boat Show kicked off its five-day run at the Javits Center on Wednesday.

It features the latest and greatest in boating, including kayaks, yachts and water sport boats with ballast technology that allows you to create your own wave.

"So you go out on a lake that has no waves, create a wave with your ballast and surf," boat show spokesperson Carrie Waible said.

The queen of the show is the 51-foot Sea Ray 510 Sundancer, with twin-screws, 574 horsepower, two state rooms and a helm Waible says is waiting for a captain. It can be yours for about $1.3 million.

Sellers have high hopes.

"Last year we did about 18 boats at this show so we are hoping to do about the same," said Tim Kelly of Great Bay Marine on Long Island, adding this is an important weekend. "It's probably about 15 percent of the business for the year for my company."

"We consider it a good show if we can sell 10 to 15 boats," said Nate Anderson of Scout Boats.

The show runs through Sunday.
