2 Women Killed, 3 Children Injured In Newark House Fire

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A fast-moving fire ripped through a Newark home Saturday morning, killing two women and injuring three children.

Newark fire officials told NJ.com firefighters were called to the home on Oakland Terrace at around 6:35 a.m.

The blaze was brought under control after about an hour.

The three children hurt in the fire were being treated for undisclosed injuries, and further information on their conditions were not released. Another adult was also injured in the fire.

The names of the women who were killed have not been released.

"My mother and my grandmother are in a better place, that's all I can say right now," Denzel Miller, the son and grandson of the victims, told 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten.

"They were nice people. They didn't deserve to die like this, but there's a reason for everything," he added.

The Newark Fire Department's arson division and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office's arson task force are investigating.
