2 Shot Dead In Residential Neighborhood In Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were shot and killed Monday afternoon in a residential neighborhood in Hempstead, police said.

Hempstead Village police told 1010 WINS and CBS 2 the shooting happened around 1 p.m. on Belmont Parkway near Greenwich Street in Hempstead.

One man was pronounced dead at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, while the body of the other was found on a lawn in front of a home on Belmont Parkway, according to a Newsday report.

A standoff involving SWAT teams followed the shooting, and the area was still blocked off as late as 8 p.m., the newspaper reported.
