2 Police Officers Injured, 10 Arrested Following Melee In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two NYPD officers were injured and 10 people arrested after a wild brawl in the Bronx early Saturday.
As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, one officer suffered a broken nose and two fractured eye sockets, while the other has a jaw fracture.
Police said the two officers were attacked when they tried to break up a group of men and one woman who were throwing dice and drinking Hennessy near the corner of East Tremont and Bronx Park avenues.
One woman who lives nearby said rowdy behavior is par for the course for the neighborhood.
"Sometimes I can hear them from behind my house," she said. (Stern: What do you hear?) I hear all the fighting, commotion, cursing, smacking, hitting."
All 10 who were arrested are charged with disorderly conduct and gambling. Two of the 10 are also charged with assaulting a police officer, Stern reported.
The officers were treated for their injuries at a hospital and released.
