2 NYPD Officers Hurt When Police Chase Ends With Crash In Harlem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A chase and a crash sent two NYPD officers to the hospital in Harlem Friday afternoon.
The events began when a passerby flagged down a squad car in the 34th Precinct in Upper Manhattan. That person reported being robbed, and said a friend called 911 and also began following the suspects who drove off.
Police were able to track down the suspects' vehicle and a chase ensued, the NYPD said.
The chase came to an end around 2:45 p.m. at 139th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, when the dark sedan crashed into a squad car, police said.
The airbags on the squad car deployed, and two officers were rushed to Harlem Hospital Center with minor injuries, police said. The two suspects in the car were first taken to the 32nd Precinct, and then were taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, CBS2's Sonia Rincon reported.
A witness said the suspects appeared to hit the squad car intentionally.
"The driver ran away and the cops was chasing him," a witness said. "He was driving really fast – he was coming this way, and just came and hit the cops' car."
The witness said he was glad nobody was shot, given that the officers had their guns drawn as they chased the suspects.
