2 Men Face Animal Cruelty Charges After Badly Wounded Dogs Rescued From Huntington Home

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two men face animal cruelty charges after two badly wounded dogs were rescued from a home in Huntington.

According to the town's animal shelter director, the German shepherd and pit bull were discovered fighting in a backyard littered with broken glass and sharp metal, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

The house on Denmark Court is so deplorable, it may have to be torn down, authorities said.

The animals were covered with new and old wounds, infested with fleas and underfed. The dogs had punctured eyes and missing teeth, Xirinachs reported. They are now being cared for at the town's animal shelter.

The dogs' owners, Errol James and Derrick Simon, are charged with animal cruelty and are expected to be arraigned Friday.

The dogs are expected to survive.
