2 L.I. Schools Placed On Lockdown When Police Find Man With Gun To Own Head

HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two schools were briefly placed on lockdown in Hicksville, Long Island Monday afternoon, after police found and apprehended a man walking outside with a gun to his own head.

Nassau County police said around 2:30 p.m., the man was found walking in the area of Straw Lane with a gun pointed at his head.

The man was apprehended without incident in a parking lot on Stewart Avenue, and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

As the man was being apprehended, police shut down Stewart Avenue from Levittown Parkway and Route 106 in both directions.

Two schools was also placed on temporary lockdown as a precaution, police said.
