2 People Injured When Car Jumps Curb In Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were seriously injured when a car jumped the curb in Queens Tuesday evening.
"I was about to go to sleep and all of the sudden I heard, 'Boom'" one witness said.
Witnesses said that boom was a grey Toyota Rav 4 that jumped a curb and crashed into a parking meter.
The crash happened around 5:35 p.m. at 162nd Street and Station Road in Flushing, as CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported.
Two women were walking on the sidewalk and became caught in the chaos of the accident. Firefighters arrived on the scene and worked on one of the women who was seriously injured and appeared to be pinned underneath the sport-utility vehicle.
The 68-year-old driver of the Toyota did not want to be identified, but told CBS2 that he was on his way home when a Northshore University Hospital Support Operations vehicle hit him off Northern Boulevard and sent him onto the curb.
"Yes, hit my wheel, rear side," he said, "Then I lost my car, lost control and then hit the meter machine."
The hospital vehicle had minor damage to the front end. Police spent most of the evening investigating. The driver was only concerned about the two women who were taken away to the hospital, and was too shaken up to say much more.
Police let the driver go, but said they would be inspecting his car as the investigation into the accident continues.
