2 Dead, 14-Year-Old Boy Injured In Belt Parkway Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police are investigating a deadly one-car crash on the Belt Parkway in Queens.

The accident occurred near 181st Street around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

A preliminary investigation determined a 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling at a high speed on the North Conduit Avenue, police said.

The 20-year-old driver swerved to overtake another vehicle and then attempted to get back into the left lane and enter the entrance ramp to the westbound Belt Parkway, police said. The vehicle lost control and drove onto the shoulder before striking a light pole and a tree.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old D'John Arias or Corona, Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 19-year-old passenger, identified as Karim Carter of Jamaica, Queens, suffered severe trauma and died a short time later at Jamaica Hospital, police said.

A third victim, a 14-year-old boy, suffered leg injuries and was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
