2 Charged In Beating That Left Homeless Man Dead In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects were arrested and charged Tuesday, in connection with a beating on the steps of a Bronx church that ultimately left a homeless man dead.

The attack happened just after 10 p.m. on June 19 at Saint Nicholas of Tolentine Church on the corner of West Fordham Road and University Avenue. The entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

Miguel Durcio, 41, was asleep on the church steps when police said three males walk up and surround him. In the video, they appear to crouch down around the sleeping man.

That was when police said the suspects are seen kicking the victim in the head. The suspects then fled the scene, police said.

Durcio was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he died of his injuries on Sunday, police said.

On Tuesday, police announced that two suspects had been charged in the attack. Angel Monegro, 17, and Noel Martinez, 24 – both of the same address in the Bronx – were charged with manslaughter.

Three suspects appear in the surveillance video.
