2 Busted In Texas For Allegedly Using Data Stolen In Target Breach
McALLEN, Texas (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Credit card information stolen in the Target data breach apparently has hit the market.
Police in Texas arrested two men who they said used phony credit cards to buy merchandise.
McAllen, Texas, Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said Monday that 27-year-old Mary Carmen Garcia and 28-year-old Daniel Guardiola Dominguez, both of Monterrey, Mexico, used cards containing the account information of South Texas residents. The chief said they were used to buy tens of thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise at national retailers in the area.
The two were arrested on Sunday morning trying to re-enter the U.S. at the border.
Target Corp. disclosed last month that about 40 million credit and debit cards may have been affected by a data breach that happened between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, just as the holiday shopping season was shifting into high gear.
