14th Street Busway Delayed From Monday's Planned Launch Due To Lawsuit
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A commuter alert that was supposed to go into effect Monday on 14th Street in Manhattan has been delayed after neighbors sued.
As of Monday, cars were supposed to be banned from Third Avenue to Ninth Avenue from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A judge issued a temporary restraining order after neighbors sued, claiming the move would make traffic a nightmare in the area.
The MTA is launching the M14 busway while repairs continue on the L train's Canarsie tunnel.
Under the proposed plan, only buses, trucks and emergency vehicles will be able to use 14th Street. Cars will only be able to make pickups, dropoffs, and access garages.
The new select bus service will still start, it is just the restrictions that won't be in.
The pilot program is expected to last 18 months.
