1010 WINS Interview: Police Commissioner James O'Neill

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- In his first month as NYPD Police Commissioner, James O'Neill sits down with 1010 WINS' reporter Juliet Papa and talks about community policing, his relationship with Mayor de Blasio and the explosion in Chelsea that happened on his very first day as commissioner.

He also discussed the fatal police shooting of 66-year-old Deborah Danner, an emotionally disturbed woman who was fatally shot by a police officer in her Bronx home Tuesday.

"There are specific protocols when it comes to answering emotionally disturbed persons jobs and they're there for a reason. They're there to keep the cops safe, to keep the community safe and everyone involved. I know it's less than 24 hours after the shooting but it appears that some of that protocol wasn't followed and it's upsetting to me," O'Neill said. "What happened last night causes me great distress."

O'Neill also said he has a very good relationship with de Blasio who earlier today said he was very proud of the commissioner for his accountability and transparency in regard to the shooting.
