100-Year-Old Piano Man Honored In Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The oldest singer and piano player in Manhattan was honored on Friday.

At 100 years of age, Irving Fields still knows how to tickle the ivories and does it six nights a week at Tuscany, a restaurant on West 58th Street.

The sprightly gent knows how to warm up a crowd, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

"I said 'what would you like me to play?' So they say 'play Chopin,' he said. "I said 'it's a good thing you asked me for Chopin because I am a musical chef. Now how would you like Chopin, medium rare or well done?'"

Rep. Carolyn Maloney was on hand to honor Fields and presented him with a birthday cake.

Fields began playing lounges across the country when he was 14 years old. He's recorded more than 90 albums, including his own composition "Bagels and Bon Bons."
