1 Dead, 1 Injured In Fiery Crash In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - One person is dead and another seriously injured after a car crash in Brooklyn.

It happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday near Atlantic Avenue and Rochester Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Surveillance video from across the street shows a Maserati jump a curb, hit a concrete median and smash into an elevated subway column. The car then burst into flames.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle. He died at the scene.

A 35-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Nearby workers were stunned.

"There was nothing in front of him and nothing behind him. He was just flying, you know, going way too fast. I would think they were going about a buck, a hundred miles an hour," said Pat Fitzgerald, who works at a nearby auto body shop.

The Maserati was the only car involved in the crash.
