1 Woman Dead, 1 Hurt In Upper Manhattan High-Rise Fire
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One woman is dead and another was rushed to the hospital after flames ripped through an apartment in an East Harlem high-rise Sunday morning.
The FDNY says the call came in for a fire on the seventh floor of a 32-story building near the corner of First Avenue and 110th Street just before 6 a.m.
It took nearly an hour and over 75 firefighters to bring the blaze under control.
Responders found a 64-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Paramedics also took a 56-year-old woman with signs of smoke inhalation to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable.
The identity of the woman who died was not released late Sunday pending family notification.
The New York City Fire Marshals determined that the cause of the fire was incense burning too close to flammable materials, and the fire was accidental. There was no smoke alarm, the Fire Marshals said.
