1 Critical, 2 Others Injured In Stabbing On Grand Central Subway Platform

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- According to police, a drunken straphanger stabbed three men on a subway train pulling into Grand Central Terminal early Saturday morning.

Police said Ivan DeLeon pulled out a knife during a fight at around midnight on the uptown No. 6 train platform at Grand Central. They said the fight started when DeLeon, who was intoxicated, bumped into a child.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, one man was stabbed in the chest and is listed in critical condition. Two others were slashed; one in the arm and the other in the stomach, Stern reported. They were being treated at Bellevue Hospital.

The child wasn't harmed.

DeLeon, 38, was arrested on charges of assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

While some straphangers told Stern incidents like this make them nervous riding the subway, others said they still feel safe.

"It's a city of 8 million people, you're always gonna have events like that," said Greg. "It just can't be avoided with that many people. I think the subways are safe and I think they run well."
