"X-Men: Days of Future Past" trailer: Mutants "on the edge of extinction"

There's a new trailer out for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and it's packed with more glimpses at the cast, the time-travel plot and those Sentinels.

"Mutants -- we now find ourselves on the edge of extinction," Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier says in the clip, which shows both the past and present versions of many of the characters.

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is sent back to the past in an effort to change history and save mutants and humans alike. There's ominous music, somber glances and Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones") as Boliver Trask, who warns, "There is a new enemy out there -- mutants. You'll need a new weapon for this war."

And then there's Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), who counters, "I know what I have to do. It's either us or them."

The film opens on May 23. Watch the trailer below:
