Woman in labor caught in protest-caused traffic jam

A woman went into labor in a vehicle stuck in a traffic jam created by protesters blocking Interstate 80 in Berkeley, California Monday night, reports CBS San Francisco station KPIX-TV.

The Berkeley Fire Department got the call shortly after 9:30 p.m.

Emergency responders were able to locate the vehicle and transport the woman to a local hospital.

Demonstrators blocked the highway in both directions several times during the latest protest over police violence. The protesters also blocked an Amtrak train and prompted a closure of the Downtown Berkeley BART station.

The protest is the latest in a series of demonstrations around the nation over grand jury decisions not to prosecute police officers in the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missourshooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and the chokehold death of Eric Garner in New York City.
