Woman, child shot in St. Louis home invasion

ST. LOUIS - Police say an 8-year-old St. Louis boy went to school and told an office worker he had been shot, after his mother exchanged gunfire with a man who tried to force his way into a home.

The mother was also wounded in the Tuesday morning shooting. Both mother and child are in stable condition.

Officers were called after a male resident was confronted by another man who tried to push his way into the house. The mother got a gun and exchanged shots with the suspect.

She was shot in the leg and a bullet grazed the child's ankle. The suspect stole the family's car. It wasn't clear if he was injured.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that a neighbor took the boy to school, unaware he had been shot.

CBS affiliate KMOV reports police say the suspect was last seen in a black 2006 RT Charger with Missouri license plate number FA5Z4K. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
