Woman charged with pointing gun at police officer in L.A.

LOS ANGELES - A woman has been charged with six counts of assault with a firearm after she allegedly pointed a gun at a responding police officer during a fight in a Hollywood parking structure.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says 47-year-old Diamond Vargas was charged Tuesday and will be arraigned at a later date because of "medical issues."

Vargas was arrested Dec. 26 after allegedly pointing a gun at an officer, who then shot her in the leg. Police say she pulled out a bat and gun during an altercation with another woman.

Prosecutors say they'll ask that Vargas be held on $1.3 million bail. If convicted, she faces more than 30 years in prison.

The incident occurred at the Hollywood & Highland Center, which is home to the Academy Awards.
