Wolverine gets grisly in the first "Logan" trailer

Hugh Jackman’s latest outing as Wolverine looks like a rough one.

The upcoming “Logan” marks the ninth time Jackman has suited up as the metal-clawed mutant -- if you count a couple of uncredited cameos -- and the years are finally starting to wear on him, apparently.

Set to the strains of Johnny Cash’s cover of the Nine Inch Nails tune “Hurt,” the trailer finds Jackman’s Logan older, scarred and scowling, and the only other familiar mutant we get a good look at it Professor X (Patrick Stewart), looking older and more haggard than audiences have ever seen him.

Set in a fairly bleak-looking dystopian world, there’s plenty of cryptic talk about the mutants all being gone and about how a young girl brought to Logan by the professor is in desperate need of protection. All of that would suggest that this won’t necessarily be like any of the other “Wolverine” or “X-Men” outings we’ve seen.

“Logan” hits theaters March 3, 2017.
