Why Apple is ditching iPhoto

Apple ditching "iPhoto"

Apple is getting rid of iPhoto. (Break for applause.)

Much to the delight of many Mac users, the old iPhoto will be replaced this spring with the new Photos (no "i"), which will more closely approximate the image library on an iPhone.

The big idea, said Jeff Bakalar of CNET.com, is to create a more seamless, "universal" experience between OSX on the computer and iOS on mobile devices, and fix any complications that people were having switching back and forth.

It's also, the Verge reports, much faster.

The new product will sync with the iCloud so that all your photos -- and edits thereof -- will be available on all your devices, at all times.
