Where was Tim Kaine born?

Who is Tim Kaine?

Hillary Clinton's running mate, Tim Kaine, has served as a senator, governor and mayor in Virginia. He's quite literally devoted decades of his life to serving that southern state. So, you might be surprised to learn that he actually wasn't born there.

Senator Tim Kaine was born to an Irish Catholic family in St. Paul, Minnesota. However, when he was just 2 years old, his family moved to Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.

Kaine attended a Jesuit high school and the University of Missouri, graduating summa cum laude from Mizzou in just three years. So, one might assume that he'd eventually settle in the midwest. It was, after all, where the future politician spent his formative years.

What ultimately drew him to Virginia? His wife.

At Harvard Law School, Kaine met Anne Holton, the daughter of former Virginia governor A. Linwood Holton Jr. After graduation, the couple took the Virginia bar exam and moved down to her hometown of Richmond. The rest is VA history.
